When can I cheer on my player?
Tennis is a sport that requires concentration and quiet. You may not cheer during a point at anytime. You may cheer after a point, between games, and between sets. If any little children come, make sure they remain as close to quiet as possible during a point. Try to keep comments positive in nature. Your player is already under a good deal of stress during a match.
Where do I sit/stand?
Spectators are to keep three feet away from the fence. This is for your safety, the focus for the players, and the ability for coaches to easy speak to players between games. Most facilities have bleachers or benches. If you bring a fold out chair, make sure to follow the three foot rule.
How long to matches last?
Matches can last anywhere from 1 hour or longer.
How does scoring take place?
Each player plays two sets of 6 games. In each game, the scoring is kept as Love (zero), 15, 30, 40. So if you player was to score four straight points, they would have won that game. They would then need to win 5 more games to win the set. So, if your child wins 6-4, 6-1, that means he won 6 games to 4 games that the opponent won in the first set, and 6 games won to the opponent's 1 game in the second set. If each player wins a set, then there is a 10 point tiebreaker played to decide the match.
I thought tennis was an individual sport. How does it work as a team sport?
Each individual game counts as a point for the team for a win. Five singles games are played and two doubles games. (#1 doubles becomes the tie breaker match) If a player wins, the team gets 1 point. The team that won the most matches, and has the most points, wins the overall match.
Will my child play every match?
There is no guarantee that your child may play. There could be forfeits by the other team or line up changes that may sideline your player. Come knowing this could happen and be ready to support other players on the team.
Can my player ride home with me after a match?
With some heads up to coach and for a good reason, yes, but only then! On the bus ride home and when arriving at school instruction and discussion about a match takes place. If you remove your child from this they may miss out on something the team needs to know.
Can I provide snacks?
YES! Snacks are needed at home and away matches. If you are interested in providing a snack, visit the Snack Signup page. Generally, water, fruit, sandwiches, and chips are provided by parents.
Can I purchase gear to show my support?
YES! The players love for fans to show up wearing a t-shirt. You can send a form and payment through your child or you can visit the Eagle Tennis Store to submit and online order.
